Hand Sanitiser Monopoly

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic lock-down, a large number of unscrupulous retailers hiked up the prices of wipes, toilet roll and sanitiser to the point it became a global subject of ridicule. This profiteering practice is affectionately known as price gouging. The major online retailer platforms such as Amazon and eBay clamped down on these practices and this has been widely reported in the press (https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/347346 and eBay itself https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/Hand-Sanitizer-Gel-50ml-1-50-removed-by-Ebay-50ml-at-8-50-still/td-p/6546166). The eBay restrictions came into effect as of March 2013 and since then there is no process for genuine sellers to get approved.

However such methods are a double edged sword. Since the lock-down many manufacturers have adjusted manufacturing production lines to supply the short-fall of PPE/PPW and sanitisers to help address the global shortage. Unfortunately there is no easy channel to market for these products and where market forces should be driving the prices down for consumers, eBay and Amazon are forcing them up. These items are continually out of stock, disreputable companies have found ways round the restrictions and are hiking up the prices again and the supply in the system is blocked.

Face Visors

There is a demand for all sorts of face protection as COVID-19 restrictions are getting lifted. The World Health Organisation guidelines do not recommend face coverings in all circumstances – be they face masks or visors – but often they provide a degree of security to the wearers. This means there are a range of non-medical face masks (see our online shop) that can be fashion statements, available in corporate colours or even branded, but there are also a variety of different visor types available.
